Our Breeding Philosophy
We adhere to some very strict criteria to ensure that quality offspring are produced. We believe that quality gun dogs come from quality parents. We only use foundation dogs that have come from reputable breeders with well-established bloodlines. Then we will consider using one of our dogs for breeding.
Our criteria for breeding a given dog are:
- Must be a minimum of two years old
- Show reasonable conformity to the breed standard including eyes, teeth, and hips
- Demonstrate a calm and sociable demeanor with our family, other people, and other dogs
We are a family-oriented business. We only breed one or two quality litters a year. We breed because we love GSPs and are trying to improve the breed with quality parents. For health reasons, we will only breed a given dam two or three times within her life and typically only breed her every other year during her prime.
We provide a 30-month guarantee backing health and quality of our puppies. We will work with and continue to be there for the support as the pup matures. We're especially fond of placing puppies into homes where they will become gun dogs and be tested through NAVHDA or NADKC programs.
All River Bottom Kennel puppies will be released to their new owners at or around seven weeks. Puppies will be NAVHDA registered, have their tails docked, dew claws removed, and up-to-date on all their necessary shots and medications.

Bottom Line:
We are not a puppy mill. We only breed quality German Short-hair Pointers that we have hunted and had in our home for at least two years, ones that have proven to be versatile in upland and water work.
